Light on a Distant Hill
The Following lines are from a song called "Light on a Distant Hill". I believe it was written by Michael McClean and performed by the BYU Young Ambassadors..
Man: "I'd ask you if i could, Your secret to survival, You found a way to overcome such a punnishing arrival! How could you go on, The journey should have killed you, and when your cup was empty you still found a dream that filled you! ... And was the promised land quite what you bargained for...You came to find a peaceful home, but had to fight a war! And when it all seemed hopeless what sustained your final try? Why didn't you just say "I'm through" give up the dream and die!!"
Ancestors answer: "Not all of us were noble and not all of us were brave, But everyone who has a dream goes on in different ways! But theres a strength in knowing that if we could make it through the light that we were searching for might shine, so bright, in you!!!
You asked me how i stood the pain of trudging through he night...
And how the seeds of hope were ever sewn...
Dreams are not worth dreaming if they're only for ourselves, It was a future generation shouting you are not alone!
And our light will Shine, On a distant hill! It may not be until long after we have gone but, we believe it will! Our light will shine on that distant hill!"
It is my hope that I will be the light my ancestors were searching for. I hope they see me shine on that distant hill!
